Here we are, the last episode of the Freeware Mission. Or the last episode before the grand finale. I’ve installed 50 freeware programs since the beginning, and my PC is feeling great with only freeware in it! I think it’s normal that the last freeware program that will be installed, the 51st, is a software update monitoring tool, a program that will automatically search for updates for my installed freeware programs.

There are three freeware programs that were interesting enough to be tested: FileHippo.com Update Checker, UpdateStar and SUMo (Software Update …

Hello friends, just two more episodes until the conclusion of the Freeware Mission, exactly one month after the beginning. Today I’m going to pick a free partition manager, the best one, and a free backup software, because you can’t play around with the partitions without backing up the data.

I think that the best free partition manager is Gparted Live CD/USB/PXE/HD. Quite a long name though. But it’s a great piece of freeware: you can burn the .iso to a bootable CD and you make your partitions the way you want …

Hello friends! I’m proud to report that the Freeware Mission is going as planned, maybe even better. Three episodes to go until I’ll give you the list of essential freeware programs that I installed in my PC during this quest. Here we go again, the Freeware Mission continues! Now I am going to choose a free audio converter, something that could convert my audio files from one format to another and maybe let me extract the audio from video files. I’m not asking too much, am I?

The freeware program that I chose is Any Audio Converter – it’s freeware and can convert the most popular audio file formats with no problem whatsoever. The output formats that it supports are more than enough: MP3, WMA, WAV, AAC and OGG. And the …

Hello friends, welcome to the final days of the Freeware Mission, trying to have a freeware only PC. I’m going to add a free video converter to the list today, the best one, of course. I’ve been using AutoGK for a few years now, but I feel it’s somehow “old”, it didn’t develop as fast as the things around it.

The freeware program that I chose is MeGUI – it’s open source, and supports the best codecs and containers available at this time. It’s also very reliable. Here’s a quick presentation …
