TaskSwitchXP – Advanced Freeware Alt-Tab Manager

by James 24 May 2009 3 Comments

TaskSwitchXP is a small freeware utility that enhances the standard Windows Alt+Tab switcher with advanced features and a nice interface.

I guess that many of you that have to work with multiple windows open at the same time felt a little bit disappointed by the Windows Alt+Tab switcher and thought about something better. TaskSwitchXP is a freeware program designed to pick up where the standard Windows switcher left off and give you a better, nicer and more advanced way to manage your open tasks. The program will run in the background, with a tray icon if you want it, and pop up only when you need it, when you hit Alt+Tab on your keyboard.

The program is small and fast and it can show you a preview of each window in the main dialog.

The best thing about it is that it is very customizable, you can change almost anything in its appearance, assign hotkeys and many more.

TaskSwitchXP is a nice and clean freeware program designed, as the name says, for Windows XP. It also works on Windows 2003, a less used operating system. TaskSwitchXP also has a solid process and window management capability that allows you quickly to close or minimize programs or groups. And guess what, the source code is open, it’s an open source program

Small, lightweight, fast and easy to use.

It works well and looks very nice too.

If you normally don’t use the Alt+Tab Windows XP function you might think again after installing TaskSwitchXP, it works so well and looks so nice that it might get you hooked. For me it’s a very important open source program to have in my PC because it happens quite frequently to have 5 or 10 or more windows open at the same time and TaskSwitchXP makes it very easy and even enjoyable to manage all that.

    Hi Johnny,

Thanks for testing keepass and truecrypt! And much, much thanks for this little gem. The only drawback of using a PC with tools like this, and colibri, and other tools making life easier, is the increased annoyance while working on a non-tweaked pc… 🙂

Thanks to you Gerald for recommending those programs. And I agree on the tweaks thing… When I’m using my PC at the office (which I can’t tweak because I’m not allowed to) I find myself cursing at least a few times every day.
