Launchy 2.1.2
Overview
Launchy is an open source Windows and Linux program that helps you to launch the program you need without browsing through your Start Menu or looking for a shortcut on your desktop.
Review
I guess you all know about Launchy. If you don’t, download it now, don’t wait until tomorrow. I was a little bit reluctant at first. I thought that I didn’t need a program to launch other programs. After trying Launchy I admit I was wrong.
My desktop is a little bit crowded right now with shortcuts to various programs, but with Launchy that’s not a problem anymore. Just type the first letters of the program you want to launch an you’re there faster than you can say “freeware“.
Launchy will run in the background and you just need to press Alt + Spacebar to use it. I was worried about its memory footprint, because it’s a program that runs in the background, but I checked it and it takes only about 10 MB.
You can customize the shortcut keys and also basically the whole program through the numerous plugins and skins that are available for free.

Mr.Johnny,
I liked your listing it is great.
May I take the liberty to describe one of the best freeware programe I used some time back.It was the programe launcher. It used to index all the programes installed in the hard drive and looked as under
______________________________________________________________________
AB CD EF GH IJ KL MN OP QR ST UV WXYZ
______________________________________________________________________
Name of the Programe Exe File Application
______________________________________________________________________
If you click on the above alphabet it will list all the programes installed in that alphabet with name of exe file and by clicking these exe files you can open desired programe. It used to update itself as soon as any new programes instaled.I regret I do not remember the name and it was lost when my HDD was replaced and formated.IT MAY SOUND ABSURD BUT BELIVE ME I LIKED IT VERY MUCH.
I request you is it possible to list this programe if you could find it in internet. I tried and tried but could not trace it since I do not know the name.
Thanks
It’s quite difficult to find the respective software if you don’t know the name of the program…. Hopefully somebody who used it might recognize it from the description and help us to find it.
Mr.Johnny,
thanks for your prompt response. If possible could you write some prog like that for benefit of all.
thanks again
I just found your website. This place is full of great info for any freeware maven! Congratz.
Launchy sounds a lot like another program i’ve tried — Find And Run Robot (FARR, for short). It is written by Mouser, the man behind DonationCoder.com, and like all his programs, it’s free.
I know programs of this type have a way of latching onto your brain and never letting go, so it you’re not interested in a competing product, that’s cool. If, like me, you’re always looking, give FARR a spin. You might like it.
Oh, here’s the link.

Thanks for the suggestion Harmon, looking, finding and trying, that’s what this blog is all about. Actually FARR has been on my list for quite some time now but I didn’t find the time to test it yet. I know Mouser and I appreciate his work very much
