Driver Max 4.4

by James 23 November 2008 6 Comments

DriverMax is a free program that allows you to download driver updates for your hardware. It works with Windows XP and Windows Vista.

I was using RadarSync to update my drivers, but the program behave quite badly lately, it crashed several times and even refused to start on several occasions. I decided to test DriverMax to see if it can be a good alternative to RadarSync.

After installing and registering the program DriverMax indexes the drivers that you already have installed. The process doesn’t take too long, a few minutes only.

After that you can search for driver updates, and I must say that DriverMax found more updates for me than RadarSync did.

So far, so good. DriverMax seems to be reliable and good. The problem is the interface. It’s sooo intricated, it takes you from the main program window to their website, after that to the DriverMax Agent window… You have to click a lot until you finally get to download the damn driver update.

The main thing is that it found all the possible driver updates thet I needed, so that might make me overlook the interface problems.

It’s free and it does the job, it really finds and downloads driver updates.

   Easy to use.

You have to register in order to use it.

The interface is quite a nightmare.

I’m going to keep it for now and test it along with RadarSync, waiting to see if future versions might change something. For now, DriverMax is slightly better.

yeah, but driver max doesn’t work on vista, so what’s the point?

  • Johnny Karp said:

The point is I’m using Windows XP. And secondly the latest version seems to work on Vista, or at least that’s what they say.

Did you try it on a Vista machine? You should try the new version of Radarsync too (2009) – it’s way improved. Getting more ‘solid’

  • Johnny Karp said:

Nope, didn’t try it on Vista. And yes, I’m planning to give RadarSync another try, I’ve been hearing good things about the new version too.
