Best Free Screen Session Recorder

by James 28 November 2008 2 Comments

Welcome to the Freeware Mission again, only a few episodes away from having a list of essential freeware for a freeware only PC. Many of my friends ask me for computer advice and explaining all the steps over the telephone or IM is always annoying. I decided to make screen recordings for them, and I need a freeware program for that.

I’ve tested a few free screen session recorders and the final choice was between CamStudio and Jing. Well, Jing definitely looks nicer, but I think that CamStudio is better. The main thing is that CamStudio can record your screen session to .avi files or to .swf (Streaming Flash Video) files and I found it easier to use. I’ve made a test screen recording with some of the basic functions, check it out.

Easy to use and reliable, just what I needed.

Overall CamStudio does the job very well, even with sound recording if you want to.

You can download CamStudio from here, it’s free!

Tomorrow we’ll have RAM day on the Freeware Mission, don’t miss it – I’ll pick the best freeware programs to test and optimize my Random Access Memory.
