Best Free File Sharing Program

by James 28 November 2008 5 Comments

Howdy folks, welcome to the Freeware Mission again. Now, when I talk about a file sharing program I don’t mean Direct Connect or BitTorrent, stuff that allows you to browse through files and folders from users all over the world. I need a freeware program that would allow me to share files with my friends, with the people I choose to share files with. Everything clear?

The best option I found is a freeware program called GigaTribe and it does just what I want: allows me to share files with my friends, files of every size and shape. It works like a Peer to Peer program but the difference is that you get to choose the people that can share files with you.

You can find a more detailed description of the way it works in my previous review, now I’m going to recap the whole thing: you make an account, choose which files and folders to share and then invite your friends to install GigaTribe and join your network. After that they can download what you want them to and you can download shared files from them. Pretty simple. Another good thing is that all the data exchange that will go on in your network will be encrypted, so things will be safe. And you can chat with your friends inside GigaTribe if you want to.

You can download GigaTribe from here, it’s free (maybe the only annoying limitation for the free version is that you can only have one download at a time).

Another great file sharing and chat program is WASTE. And it’s also extremely secure (1536bit encryption).

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll add it to the “To Be Tested” List. Cheers.

Ik heb een aantal contacten die online zijn maar die niet te zien zijn door me bij gigatribe. Is dit probleem bekend?

English, please. Or even French or Italian maybe…

    Hi,

do you know retroshare. I uses full encrypted communication, using a private key – public key verification of the counterparts you are sharing with.

    Bye,

    Nemo
