Best Free Dictionary

by James 28 November 2008 5 Comments

Of course, I’m talking about the best free English dictionary. Hello folks, welcome to the Freeware Mission again, trying to build a freeware only PC. Those 2000 pages and 10 kilos paper dictionaries are for the museums, I need something that can be one click away. And it must be freeware. Let’s see what I found.

I tested several freeware dictionaries, many of them behaved nicely and gave me the results I needed. But the only one that gave me great functionality and speed was… WordWeb. This piece of freeware is so easy to use and so powerful that I really don’t need anything else. Just take a look: I highlighted a word on my blog, then opened WordWeb that was running quietly in the system tray, and the word was already there, with the definition and everything! I didn’t copy/paste it, just highlighted it!

The features in this little one are simply amazing, it has everything you would expect a dictionary and thesaurus to have and maybe even more. It gives you synonyms, references, antonyms, it can even pronounce the word for you! Great freeware, just great! And it’s free to use only if you take at most two commercial flight per year! You all know that those planes have huge greenhouse gas emissions!

You can download WordWeb from here, it’s free!
