AusLogics Disk Defrag – Fast and Free Disk Defragmenter
My own four hard disks are always writing a lot of information, especially when I do video editing. Defragmenting the hard disks is a must! Windows XP has a Disk Defragmenter, but I always found it to be too slow. I stumbled upon a free defragmenter called AusLogics Disk Defrag, let’s see if it’s any better.
The download and installation will go very fast: the setup package is only 1.3 MB and the installation process takes less than a minute to complete. After that you can launch the program and choose the partition you want to defragment. I chose the system partition, C:, 10 GB in size.

The defragmenting process started, and the program said “it may take a while…” I was a little bit disappointed because it lacks any indication of the remaining time to completion.
But then… it took only two minutes to complete! Two minutes! Way faster than the Windows XP Disk Defragmenter. Way to go!
The report said that the remaining fragmentation on the partition was 5%. Let’s double check that with the Windows Disk Management.
Checked! This is a very good piece of freeware indeed! Now excuse me, I have to go on defragmenting my other partitions ![]()
You can download the program from here, it’s free!
