ViPlay 4 Beta 1 – Free Video Player

by James 22 November 2008 One Comment

If you’re tired of Windows Media Player, BsPlayer and all of the other legendary video players you might want to try something new: ViPlay 4 is an open source player from the makers of Subtitle Workshop, another piece of valuable freeware previously reviewed here. The latest stable version is v3, but they have recently released v4 Beta1.

The interface is very simple, only a few buttons, more accessible if you right click on the window. There are some basic color adjustments available too.

The main strength of this program is the subtitle files compatibility: it supports any kind of subtitle files you can think of (from Advanced SubStation Alpha (*.ass) to ZeroG (*.zeg) Of course, the most popular subtitle formats are supported (.srt, .sub, .txt)
About the supported media files the developer only says that it supports 61 formats, but does not specify them.
It gave me a good feeling overall, but I suggest you try the stable version (v3), because the v4 Beta1 still has some bugs in it. You can download it from here, it’s free!
